2011 has been great to us and we have learned loads.. firstly we have really learned to appreciate every single fan we have, every single person who looked us up, came up to speak to us, told us they love our music, bought a cd, came partyin with us, left us messages online, dragged themselves out to some dodgy bar and sat through hours of waiting to hear us play 3 tunes, risked the late buses, didnt give out about getting constant texts and updates and didn’t block us from their newsfeed – thank you to each an everyone of you.. Without people to listen what would we do..
The other big thing we already knew but may have needed to be reminded of every now and again is that bands need to keep their focus away from thoughts of big money, from unrealistic dreams, from dodgy promoters promising you the world, from hopes of contracts and bein signed – or at least havin your tunes played on todayfm (surely Ray Foley would love our tunes?!) – instead, just remember to support as many musicians as possible, work together with other people who are playing music, show loyalty, show support, show confidence and consideration, show respect, share contacts, share gigs, share music, share love!
And lastly remember that there is no final destination, there is no end goal – the goal is just to enjoy the journey, play your music and appreciate every time people hear what you have created. There will never be any single gig that makes us go – thats it, we have made it now, lets retire – that will never happen, there will never be an end to playin tunes and loving music, so therefore every single gig is as important as the last one and the next one. As corny as it sounds, its the journey that matters an wanting a quick rise to ‘fame’ or ‘success’ is total bulshit and not worth a shit. Enjoy your band, enjoy your music, enjoy your gigs, enjoy the people this wonderful job lets you meet and just remember you did all of this for a love of music.
